IPE institutional market survey: Managers of French institutional assets 2026

France survey 2026

Assets managed on behalf of French institutional investors reached €2.3trn at the end of 2025, just shy of 1% higher than the previous year. Growth last year was flat and has been trending down since 2023. With over €818bn of assets, Amundi is the leading manager of French institutional assets in terms of AUM

Thanks to its merger with AXA Investment Managers, BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPPAM) climbed from fifth to third place in the ranking last year, overtaking Ostrum Asset Management. BNPPAM is also the largest manager of French pension fund assets, a competitive market in spite of the relatively small size of overall assets – €165.6bn at the end of 2025.

IPE covers a good variety of very current and relevant topics. It is good to read the high-level, independent and objective perspectives from pension funds in other European countries; many of them are dealing with the same issues as we are, so it is interesting to learn from their experiences, especially when they are ahead of where we are on the curve.
