UK – Ray Martin, human resources and pensions chief at brewer Scottish & Newcastle, is to join consulting firm Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

S&N is currently recruiting a replacement, although Julie Westwood remains in charge of the investment side, an S&N official told IPE. The future structure “was not entirely clear” at the moment.

Mercer said Martin would be a principal within its client management team. It said: “Based in Edinburgh, he will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with domestic and multinational clients.”

Martin has had various roles at Airbus, Rexam and Zeneca. “Ray has a very strong reputation in the pensions and benefits community, having held senior positions at a number of multinational organisations,” said Mercer’s European president Simon O’Regan.

“His knowledge and experience will be a great asset to our client management team and I am delighted to welcome him to Mercer.”

Martin is a fellow of the Pensions Management Institute and an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He’s a former board member at the National Association of Pension Funds and past vice chairman of the European Federation for Retirement Provision.

Meanwhile, Mercer says it has been appointed to provide defined benefit administration services to infrastructure firm Amey.

It said the appointment relates to three schemes with total memberships of over 4,000 and assets of around £150m.
