GLOBAL - State Street Global Advisors, State Street Corp.’s investment management arm, has named Peter Leahy as chief operating officer, a new role.

Leahy, who has been at SSGA for 13 years, will report to the unit’s chairman and chief executive, Tim Harbert. Paul Brakke, senior principal, will assume Leahy's role as head of SSGA’s global structured products group. Leahy has headed that unit since 1996.

Leahy will oversee finance, technology, operations and human resources for SSGA worldwide. He will remain a member of its executive management team, vice-chairman of the investment committee and chairman of the Independent Fiduciary Committee.

"Peter has played an integral role in orchestrating the company's expansion and success," Harbert said. "His exceptional leadership during his tenure here makes him ideally suited for this new role.
