NETHERLANDS – The 150 billion-euro Dutch civil service pension scheme ABP has named Louis Chaillet, head of investments at medical industry fund SBA, to the newly created position of senior controller.

A spokesman for ABP said Chaillet was selected for “his investment savvy and broad experience in the investment and pensions world”.

Chaillet’s main role would be “the integration of risk and investment control, including performance measurement,” the spokesman also said.

The 10.3 billion-euro Utrecht-based SBA Artsenpensioenfondsen has appointed Gerard Sirks as interim head of investment until a new candidate is selected. Chaillet’s successor would be expected to start between May and June.

Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP caters for 2.4 million employers and employees of the Dutch government and the educational sector.

The Vereniging van Bedrijfstakpensioenfondsen, or VB, the Dutch Association of Industry–wide Pension Funds, said last week that excluding ABP and PGGM, Dutch pension funds reported average returns of 10.7% in 2003.
