UK - Meagan Thompson, corporate governance counsel at Railpen Investments, has become the first pension scheme professional to join the board of UK Social Investment Forum (UKSIF).

Thompson, responsible for legal advice on how companies manage themselves at the £17bn (€25bn) industrywide Railways Pension Scheme, takes up one of the five available places strictly in a personal capacity. The appointment is nevertheless seen as a significant step for the pension industry.

"I'm delighted to take up the position and look forward to highlighting the role that pensions funds, in particular those managed by Railpen, have to play when it comes to CSR issues and socially responsible investment," Thompson commented.

Railpen introduced active voting amongst its members in 1992 and has been a member of UKSIF for several years.

The forum was launched in 1991 to promote the development and positive impact of socially responsible investment amongst UK based investors.
