GLOBAL - HSBC Investments says it has hired Russell Investment Group's Philip Glaze as its global head of manager research, a new role.

Glaze will be responsible for the global manager research of HSBC's Multimanager capability, reporting to chief investment officer Joanna Munro. He takes up the job on September 13.

HSBC Investments is the global investment solutions arm of the global bank and runs $166bn in retail mutual funds and lifecycle products, portfolios for private clients and institutions as well as institutional money market funds.

Glaze joins after 12 years at Russell, where he was most recently director of research in London.

A Russell spokeswoman said James Duberly continues as head of European equity research. "Andrew Harradine and Graeme Allan will assume the research responsibilities created by Phil's departure," she said.

"We are recruiting additional research analysts over the next six months but won't seek to replace Phil."

Before joining Russell, Glaze was director and co-founder of Fund Research, the retail fund research house now taken over by Standard & Poor's, HSBC added.

"Philip is very well respected for his expertise and deep insight into investment management, having directed manager research for more than 15 years, and we are delighted to have him on board," Munro said.

"He will play a significant role in driving our Multimanager research in order to achieve our ambitious growth plans."
