BRUSSELS – Othmar Karas, the Austrian MEP who is the rapporteur to the European Parliament for the proposed Pensions Directive, is to propose 17 amendments to the directive.

Karas is to present his draft recommendation for second reading on the Pension Directive on Tuesday January 21, according to the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee’s online newsletter.

The newsletter says the amendments “primarily seek to reintroduce the coverage of biometric risks, to improve information to beneficiaries, as well as clarifying a number of definitions and concepts.”

The European Council of Finance Ministers transmitted the so-called common position of the Pensions Directive to the parliament late in 2002.
