Pablo Bernengo, Alecta’s head of asset management since December 2023, has been named the firm’s new chief executive officer.

As previously announced, Alecta’s CEO Peder Hasslev will leave the Swedish occupational pensions giant in the autumn to retire. Bernengo will take up his position on 1 September.

Before joining Alecta, Bernengo was head of asset management at AP3 (the Third Swedish National Pension Fund) and CEO and head of asset management at Öhman Fonder.

“We are very pleased that Pablo has accepted the position of new CEO of Alecta. We have evaluated both external candidates and highly qualified internal candidates. In addition to extensive experience in asset management and other senior positions in similar organisations, Pablo has good leadership skills and good knowledge of Alecta,” the firm stated.

In a statement, Alecta’s chair of the board, Magnus Hall, said that Bernengo had been “central in developing and implementing the extensive improvement measures in governance and risk management that Alecta has implemented in recent years”.

“Alecta is a fine company with a history of over 100 years and a very important social mission, which makes the job both stimulating and challenging,” said Bernengo.

Alecta’s head of equities, Magnus Tell, will be acting head of asset management as of 1 September.

Additionally, Marie Litezings, head of customer and insurance at Alecta, has been appointed deputy CEO, also as of 1 September.
