The Swedish Pensions Agency (Pensionsmyndigheten) has appointed a new head of analysis, filling the vacancy left by Ole Settergren – who quit earlier this year over a disagreement about his campaigning activities – with career civil servant Kristian Seth.

Anna Pettersson Westerberg, director general of the agency, said she was very pleased Seth had accepted.

“Kristian Seth has very broad and solid experience of qualified analysis work in many different subject areas, but also specifically of welfare systems and especially the pension system,” she said.

Seth said he felt inspired and honoured to join the agency, which he said was characterised by great competence and professionalism.

“I also think that the pension system is a bit of a crown jewel in the Swedish economy. Something that must be protected and nurtured, and I am really looking forward to contributing to it together with the employees in the analysis department,” he added.

Seth will take up his role as head of the agency’s analysis department on 20 August, taking over from Elin Berglöf, who has been acting in the role since Settergren’s departure.

Seth is currently principal secretary to the productivity commission established by the Swedish government two years ago to boost growth in the Nordic country, having previously worked as a department head at the then Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation.

Meanwhile, Settergren, a civil servant who has campaigned in his personal capacity against government inefficiency and poor decision-making, is now heading up a foundation aimed at improving government authorities, which he set up himself.

As of this month, Settergren is chief executive officer of Insamlingsstiftelsen Bättre Myndigheter (fundraising foundation for better authorities), according to his LinkedIn profile, with the new entity described as “a proxy for the creative and disciplinary force that competition is for companies. A force that over time helps businesses to achieve efficiency, quality and development”.
