NETHERLANDS - Marcel Jeucken has been appointed head of responsible investments at PGGM, the €74bn scheme announced.

Jeucken, 36, was formerly head of institutional relations at Dutch Sustainability Research, or DSR, and sales and marketing director at the Sustainable Investment Research International Company SiRi, PGGM added.

Earlier, he held various posts at Triodos Bank and Rabobank. Jeucken has written several books on sustainable finance.

The function of head of responsible management is a new post. Jeucken started as of July 10.

PGGM’s responsible investment policy provides for excluding investments in the production and trade of arms, and in case of violation of human rights. It is open to investment in companies which show the best practice on sustainability.

Furthermore, it has itself committed to active engagement with companies on improving sustainable management, the scheme stated.

PGGM – the second largest pension fund in The Netherlands - is responsible for the pensions of more than 1m employees, 216,000 pensioners and 600,000 former employees in the healthcare and social work sector.
