SWEDEN – The PPM premium pension system has launched an online quiz game based on the TV show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ in a bid to promote its investment funds system to young Swedes.
The educational game entitled ‘Who Wants to be a Pensioner?’ starts with practical pension investment tests and ends with a quiz.
The PPM says it believes young people are not very interested in what is going to happen in more than 40 years time.
Eva Lindhé, head of information at PPM, says the authority would be happy if 50% of the 490,000 new PPM members take an active part in their premium pension choice.
In the first phase of the game players have to create a 20-year old fictional character, with a choice of different heads, shirts, trousers and investment funds. The starting sum is 1396 fictional currency units - the average starting sum in crowns of a young scheme participant, says Lindhé.
As the character grows older, there is also a possibility to change funds every 20 years until retirement at 65.
The second phase of the game, in which players have around SEK1m to play with, is more fun, says Lindhé.
“First the players have to babysit their grandchildren and not let them escape from a blanket. If you let them go, you lose money, and they’re very fast,” she says.
The second game in the pensioner phase is a memory game, where players have to find hidden objects in a room, and the last game is the pensions quiz, Who Wants to be a Pensioner?
Another campaign, targeting only young people, will features a text message sent to them a few days before the May 30 deadline for sending in PPM forms.
The game is located at www.ppm.nu/ppmspelen.
