Aon has launched Future DB, a service designed to help trustees and sponsors remove barriers to implementing their endgame strategies as more pension schemes reach their target funding levels.

According to Aon’s Global Pensions Risk Survey 2025, 63% of schemes have either already reached their target funding level or expect to do so within the next five years. The firm said this is shifting its focus towards helping trustees and sponsors overcome barriers to implementing their chosen endgame strategy, whether buyout or run-on.

Aon said Future DB is designed to respond to schemes’ current circumstances while providing support as their endgame strategies evolve.

The service is also intended to give schemes greater flexibility over their endgame options, reflecting changing market preferences. Aon’s survey found that 24% of respondents now intend to run on beyond settlement readiness, rather than pursue buyout.

Ben Roe, senior partner and head of UK Retirement for Aon, said: “It’s clear that the changed funding position of UK schemes demands fresh thinking and new methods. With that in mind, we reviewed our core services for DB schemes and Future DB is the result. It is designed to give trustees and sponsors a wider range of options, with more certainty and smoother execution of their endgame approach.”

Roe said Future DB brings together administration, governance, actuarial, investment and covenant advice within a single framework centred on an endgame-focused onboarding approach.

He said the approach is intended to reduce management time and costs for trustees and sponsors.
