Robeco, ICG, Redwheel, Lifetri, Kempen, Janus Henderson

RobecoKees Verbaas has been appointed as global head of fundamental equity at Robeco. In this role, he oversees the global equity, emerging markets, Chinese equity and Asia-Pacific equity teams.

Verbaas joins Robeco today and will report to Mark van der Kroft, chief investment officer, fundamental and quant equity. He is based in Rotterdam.

Verbaas brings more than 30 years of experience in the financial sector. He joins from Altis Investment Management, NNIP’s fiduciary management group, where he has been CIO since 2017. Prior to that, he was head of fund management at Blue Sky Group where he was responsible for investment performance of more than 40 investment pools across all asset classes.

Verbaas worked at Robeco in 2011 as client portfolio manager for its emerging markets equity team. He also held roles such as chief executive officer of global emerging markets at Hermes Fund Managers in London and head of global emerging Markets at ABN Amro Asset Management.


ICG – The global alternative asset manager has appointed Andrea Serra as head of Europe for ICG Strategic Equity, reporting to Ricardo Lombardi, the team’s global head.

Serra joins from Blackstone, where he spent 15 years, most recently as a managing director in the tactical opportunities group in New York, and prior to that, in the private equity division in London and New York. He will be based in ICG’s London office and be part of the senior leadership group executing ICGSE’s investment strategy. He will also join ICGSE’s investment committee.

ICG Strategic Equity specialises in GP-led secondary transactions, and has invested over $10bn in the strategy since its inception in 2014. The team comprises 25 dedicated investment professionals across London and New York.


Janus Henderson – The firm has made several promotions in its fixed income platform, effective 1 October, that will further enhance its client-focussed business.

Seth Meyer, currently a credit portfolio manager at the firm, has been promoted to head of fixed income strategy, a newly-created role. In his new role, Meyer will work with Jim Cielinski, global head of fixed income on facilitating the strategic and commercial direction of the fixed income platform. Furthermore, Meyer will have responsibility for leading the fixed income client portfolio management team and implementing the ESG strategy within the fixed income franchise.

Meyer brings 24 years of financial industry experience spanning a variety of investment and client focused roles, including portfolio management, credit research, product management and consultant relations. He will retain portfolio manager responsibilities and report to Cielinski.

Tom Ross was also appointed to lead the firm’s high yield franchise and John Lloyd to lead its multi-sector credit franchise.

In his newly-created role, Ross will be responsible for leading investment strategy and portfolio management in high yield, while Lloyd will be responsible for creating the strategic framework, leading investment strategy, launching new products and bringing together ideas globally across the multi-sector credit franchise.

Both appointments will ensure portfolios leverage the full depth and breadth of the firm’s global expertise seeking to drive the best outcomes for its clients in adherence with its disciplined, repeatable investment process. They will retain their portfolio manager responsibilities but additionally, will be empowered to seek growth opportunities for these business lines.

Ross, a corporate credit portfolio manager at Janus Henderson brings 20 years of active management industry experience, while Lloyd, former co-head of credit research, brings 24 years of financial industry experience.

Additionally, Mike Talaga has been promoted to head of credit research, North America, replacing Lloyd. Talaga will be responsible for overseeing the corporate credit research effort. he brings 20 years of financial industry experience and has been a credit analyst with the firm since 2015.


Jane Nicholls at Redwheel

Redwheel – The specialist investment organisation (formerly RWC Partners) has appointed Jane Nicholls as head of business development, based in London.

Nicholls will lead Redwheel’s global sales, marketing and client-facing operations and will be responsible for accelerating and broadening the firm’s strategic business plans, with a focus on the commercial development of new and existing investment teams and capabilities.

Reporting to Tord Stallvik, chief executive officer, Nicholls will also be a member of the executive committee at Redwheel. She replaces Stallvik, who stepped up to the role of CEO in 2021.

Nicholls has more than 20 years of experience in the asset management industry with a proven track record of developing successful strategic initiatives and building industry-leading businesses globally, spanning institutional and wholesale asset management.

She joins from abrdn, where she was global head of ESG client strategy and previously, global chief operating officer and ESG head, distribution.


LifetriPeter Borgdorff has been named president of the supervisory board of Dutch insurance firm Lifetri. Borgdorff, who retired last year after 13 years at the helm of healthcare scheme PFZW, is to help Lifetri realise its growth ambitions in the Dutch buy-out market.

“After spending my entire working life in the world of social partners, pension funds and NGOs, it is a great challenge for me to now use this experience at an insurance firm with great ambitions in the Dutch pension market,” Borgdorff said.

Next to his position at Lifetri, Borgdorff has several other part-time functions, including being president of ANBO, a lobby club for pensioners.


Kempen Capital Management – The investment manager of Van Lanschot Kempen will strengthen its sustainable equity team by appointing Herman Kleeven as investment lead as of 1 October. Through this appointment, Van Lanschot Kempen further commits to the investment strategy that centres on sustainability and long-term shareholder engagement.

Kleeven will take over as investment lead from Richard Klijnstra, who is developing his career outside Van Lanschot Kempen by joining a healthcare education programme. Ivo Kuiper, current co-head of and senior portfolio manager within the team, will become the team head. Richard Klijnstra will remain active within the team as portfolio manager and analyst.

Kleeven has more than 30 years of experience in the financial sector and has a proven track record in sustainable investment. He was one of the initiators of the sustainable equity strategy at ING IM. Subsequently, he was responsible for the equity participation portfolio of ING insurance for 10 years. In his most recent role at APG, he led the focus equities team for nine years and was responsible for a strategy that was characterised by engaged shareholdership and sustainability.
