The Swedish Fund Selection Agency (Fondtorgsnämnden, FTN) has put a dedicated head of communications in place, bringing in Viktor Ström from funds provider Lannebo Fonder to help the new organisation, which has been struggling to deal with huge volumes of questions from asset managers in its first procurement.

Ström will take over from Nadine Viel Lamare, who was appointed in December as both sustainability strategist and communications manager at the FTN.

Under the new set up, Viel Lamare will focus on the agency’s sustainability strategy alone, according to today’s announcement from the Botkyrka-based organisation, which was established recently to conduct procurements for investment fund options in Sweden’s first-pillar premium pension system.

The FTN launched its first tender on 30 June, seeking bids from managers for large/mid-cap actively-managed European equity funds.

Since then, it has been twice forced to push back the deadline for receipt of tenders because of the volume of questions received and the clarifications it has had to make to the terms of the tender as a result.

Ström, who worked most recently at Lannebo Funds, said: ”The FTN has a task that aims to enhance the financial standing of the pension savers.

“I am both honoured and deeply appreciative of the opportunity to play a role in such an important undertaking,” he said.

During his time at Lannebo Fonder, where he worked since 2019, Ström has held the role of head of marketing and communications within the corporate management team, according to the FTN.

Earlier in his career, Ström worked as a financial journalist for a decade, during which he was news editor and part of the editorial management team at Swedish business daily Dagens Industri.

“With his deep experience from both the fund industry and media, Viktor’s ability to create successful communication strategies that generate long-term value will be an important addition to FTN’s market dialogue and organization,” the funds agency said in its announcement.

Ström will start work in his new job on 2 October.
