Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) has agreed to acquire Ownership Capital, a long-horizon equity manager based in the Netherlands, as part of an ambitious push to expand its sustainable investment business and take sustainability-focused assets under management beyond $10bn.
The integration, which remains subject to final agreement and regulatory approval, will see Ownership Capital — known for its deep research-driven analysis of material sustainability factors and active ownership engagement — become an integral part of LOIM’s wider sustainability platform, it was announced.
Founded in 2008, Ownership Capital brings extensive experience in long-term value creation, aiming to deliver superior long-term returns for clients by catalysing both corporate performance and sustainability improvement, LOIM said.
The transaction is expected to further diversify and strengthen LOIM’s proposition for institutional clients seeking high-conviction, risk-aware solutions in a rapidly evolving market.
Following completion, Ownership Capital’s team — led by chief investment officer Otto van Buul — will join LOIM and operate alongside its dedicated sustainability strategists and portfolio managers.
The firm’s differentiated investment culture, rooted in engaged ownership and bottom-up research, will complement LOIM’s established capabilities in areas ranging from diversified, systematic strategies focused on decarbonisation to thematics around climate, nature, and social opportunities, LOIM added.
The combined teams will share proprietary forward-looking research and system-change analysis to identify new opportunities and increase sources of alpha in pursuit of superior outcomes for institutional clients.
Jean-Pascal Porcherot, managing partner of Lombard Odier Group and co-head of LOIM, said: “The integration of Ownership Capital is a sign of our continued commitment to sustainable investing, and our conviction in investment approaches supported by deep research.
“The financial significance of root issues facing our economic model continue to be misunderstood by markets, creating investable opportunities that we believe Otto’s team and its long-term and engaged ownership approach is supremely well-placed to understand”.
Otto van Buul, CIO for Ownership Capital, added: “Lombard Odier shares our forward-looking perspective on sustainability and long-term value creation. This partnership is a natural alignment of philosophies, and we are confident it will enhance our collective investment capabilities.”
The transaction further affirms LOIM’s role as a consolidator in the sustainable investing market, amplifying its ability to deliver scalable, research-driven solutions to institutional investors globally.
